Pupil Records

When it comes to No Child Left Behind, parents now have more rights. Under the guidelines, parents of children in Title 1 funded schools have the right to request and receive timely information on the professional qualifications of their children’s teachers.

At a minimum, schools must report:

  • Whether the teacher has met state qualifying and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subjects areas in which a teacher is teaching.
  • Whether a teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status.
  • The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, including the field of discipline of the certification or degree; and
  • Notice of services provided by paraprofessionals and their qualifications.

This notification must take place at the start of each school year. In addition to this information, each Title 1 School must provide individual parents with information on their child’s level of achievement on state academic assessments required by law.
