GEAR UP

GEAR UP, which stands for Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, is a grant from the United States Department of Education (USDE) that seeks to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. In fall of 2011, the School District of Lancaster was awarded a GEAR UP grant to serve students set to graduate in 2017 and 2018. This grant is a collaborative effort among the School District of Lancaster, Millersville University, Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster Education Foundation, the Pennsylvania Migrant Education Program, and Wells Fargo that seeks to increase the college preparedness, readiness, and success of the graduating Classes of 2017 and 2018. These students are currently 12th graders at the McCaskey High School Campus and college freshmen. To achieve this objective, the program focuses in the areas outlined below.
