GEAR UP

GEAR UP, which stands for Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, is a grant from the United States Department of Education (USDE) that seeks to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. The School District of Lancaster currently has two (2) GEAR UP grants.

One GEAR UP grant was awarded to the School District of Lancaster in 2011 to serve students graduating from the district in 2017 and 2018. This seven-year grant is currently in Year 6, and is serving 11th and 12th graders. This is a partnership grant and the School District of Lancaster is the fiscal agent on the grant.

Our second GEAR UP grant was awarded to the School District of Lancaster in 2015 to serve students graduating from the district in 2020. This seven-year grant is currently in Year 3, and is serving 9th graders. This is a state grant, and the Pennsylvania State System for Higher Education (State System) is the fiscal agent on the grant, while the School District of Lancaster is a subrecipient of the State System.
