Some of our students are looking for career/technical/business colleges: make sure that you explore Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology (right in our backyard) that most of our students could attend for FREE: no costs for tuition nor room and board! There are lots of other training programs but see if their classes/credits are transferable to other 4 year colleges, in case you want to complete your 4 year degree without having to start over.
For those still not sure of what career to pursue, our school counselors use Career Cruising to help in this process. The username is “mccaskey” and password is “campus”. The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry has a list of local businesses that conduct career exploration opportunities for students that they can sign-up for.
The Lancaster County Career and Technology Center has host of nine month long technical training programs available to our students during their senior year or after they graduate, as adult students. Job Corps is another way to get some technical training , but this is FREE to our graduates.
For those interested in the military , explore which branch would have the job/career you are interested both in the military and later as a civilian. Contact the local recruiter (check telephone book or on-line: many are located out by Park City) and make sure that you are talking with your parents about this option. To get into the military, you will have to take the ASVAB Test and each career/ job has a score you must achieve. There are many ASVAB Test preparation websites as well, to help you prepare.
